Ethos & Values
At Wolsingham School we believe that ‘your child is our child’, to give all children from all backgrounds an experience of school that is of equal quality that you would expect for your own children.
Staff, parents and governors work closely together to ensure that each child can aspire to be whatever they wish to be. The child’s ambition is matched by the school’s ambition for them.
School life is based on four Core Values: Work Hard, Get Involved, Be Kind and Take Responsibility.
Work Hard:
Every lesson begins with a recap of prior knowledge, which is then extended, so pupils are challenged to think deeply, work independently, learn key skills and love learning. We understand that every child learns at a different pace, so our staff work tirelessly to provide extra support outside the classroom. Our range of courses and individually-tailored careers guidance help to ensure that every student will also make the most of the opportunities available after they leave school.
Get Involved:
We believe that students gain confidence and maturity through new experiences and challenges. We therefore offer a huge range of extra-curricular activities, including the arts, music, and sport. Our students can go on educational visits locally, like a science day at Durham University, or further afield, to Russia or China.
Be Kind:
We believe that children grow best when they have unconditional support and care. Our form tutors and all staff get to know each student individually.
Take Responsibility:
We want all our students to think deeply about their potential responsibilities to their community and the world. Our three Cadets programmes support school and community events, we hold school-wide charity events throughout the year and as a UNESCO school, staff and students host international visitors every year.
We ask that all our students give 100% to these Core Values and our systems of praise and rewards are built entirely around these values so that staff and students work together to develop each child to the full.
